Ajax (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) is a kind of web application architecture that, even in its simplest form, allows a web application to provide an enriched user experience. Some larger scale examples of Ajax are Google Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth. The goal is not to understand all the details of the application, but rather to give a general idea of some important Ajax concepts and the benefits such as improved usability, speed, and overall user experience.
